The center of gravity of the base, even if he is bowed far forward, is above his feet. The back is as straight as possible, with a slightly higher shoulder than the hip. The flyer will be balanced behind the base and thus without visual contact. In the balance (without the help of the hands), the base should imagine a large ball on his back, which he wants to prevent from rolling down. It must be avoided at all costs that the floor of the flyer will literally be pulled away from under his feet.
Lying or sitting flyers are very low in the center of gravity and the danger of shearing is rather low. However, these positions are only meaningful dynamically (for example, in Rock’n’roll), or are used only as a rising for other tricks.
Example 1: the base is bowed forwards and the flyer stands on the hip …
This figure is often used as an entrance to standing on the shoulder. The required ability of the flyer is standing without using the hands … so also a good advanced! This exercise with a beginner otherwise needs to be well secured and quickly creates stress.
When standing on the hip, the flyer can use the base as a trampoline (active jump!), to achieve one of the following positions:
– standing on the shoulder
– handstand on the straight-arm
Example 2: butler to the standing or the handstand
Another dynamic variant of this position uses the flyer’s possibility to roll upwards on the back of the base along his spine. The flyer pushes off himself with an impulse (active! out of his body center) from the back of the base. The base extends this impulse to roll up the flyer over the back.
The base reinforces the flyer-initiated rotation with:
a) the back: by pushing with his back the flyer upwards (thus he creates the high relieving → pictures 3 to 5) and
b) his hands: by circular pulling the hands or feet of the flyer first down and then to himself (pictures 3-6).
We already know this pull pressure load from the libra. So then this trick uses for a short time a thrown libra. Accordingly, the stability of the flyer during the throw is the decisive criterion for the success of this trick. Good preliminary exercises for the flyer are:
- throw and catch with the front flyer on the feet
- keep a front libra static or
- the wave on the ground.
